Announcing the 2008 Comfort Food Cook-Off!

Tuesday, January 1, 2008

Here in the northern hemisphere, we're about to enter the bleakest stretch of winter so it's time to cook up some serious comfort food.

What do you yearn to eat when the days get short, the nights get cold, and the going gets tough? Are you a chicken soup chica? A mashed potatoes man? A mac and cheese mama? Or do you find comfort in a food that is(gasp!) not white?!?

I'm looking for more than just recipes here -- if there's a story behind your comfort food, I want to hear it! I'm also very curious about comfort foods from other countries and cultures.

The deadline for entries in the Comfort Food Cook-Off is Saturday, January 19th. I'll post the round up on Monday, January 21st and announce the winner on Sunday, January 27th.

The winner will receive a copy of Macaroni & Cheese: 52 Recipes from Simple to Sublime by Joan Schwartz.Macaroni & Cheese cookbook prize

Please email your entry to me at gardenofeatingblog (at) gmail (dot) com (all one word, no spaces) and be sure to put "Comfort food cook-off" in the subject of your message.

Please include the following information in your message:

  • Your name
  • The name and URL of your blog
  • The name of your dish
  • The permalink to your entry posting (and if you'd include a link to this posting, I'd appreciate that.)
If you don't have a blog, you can still participate, just email me your entry and a photo with the info above.

If your blog is not in English, please make sure that your entry is in English.

Looking forward to hearing from you all soon!

Special thanks to Andrew at Spittoon for getting this posted on Is My Blog Burning and to Lalaine at the CookMobile for her helpful advice and for pointing me to the Food Blog S'cool.

this sounds great and I would love to participate. Do you require only savory dishes to be entered or sweets would also be acceptable? Thanks!

Hi Anali,
I'm so sorry!
I've posted it but unfortunately can't add it to the poll for voting since blogger's polls do not allow you to edit them once anyone has voted (I unfortunately learned this the hard way a few days ago.)

My apologies about this.

Thank you so much for participating!

the tortillas look delicious.
