Another Use For Grapefruit Spoons -- De-Seeding Squash!

Monday, January 31, 2011

A few weeks ago, while attempting to remove the seeds from a pair of butternut squash, I had a flash of domestic goddess brilliance.

Why not use a grapefruit spoon to do the job?!

I tried it and am happy to report that it works really well. The spoon's tiny little teeth make the seed removal easier and quicker than it would be with a regular spoon.

Now I wouldn't dream of using anything else... Give it a whirl and see what you think.

What a great time saving idea! I'm going to try this on my very last squash from last summers harvet.

And here I thought I was so original. But yes, it does work great. Also a great way to scrape the seeds and ribs from jalapenos and other chiles. Not so great for Habaneros, tho.

oops, I didn't mean to post as 'unknown'. I guess the screen name I choose disappeared when I was setting this up. BTW, my new favorite variety of grapefruit is 'Melogold'. Still like Marsh, but it's as hard to find as any other type of white grapefruit.
